About Me
An artist for my entire life, I became very interested in the field of Art Therapy while working at a residential foster care program in Southampton, PA. Watching the amazing impact that Art Therapy had on this population, I quickly began researching and applying to Art Therapy programs around the country. In 1999, I graduated from Eastern Virginia Medical School with a Masters of Science Degree in Art Therapy.
I have had a very full professional career so far, working for a wide variety of non-profits in the area including a foster care/ adoption program, a domestic violence program, a homeless shelter, a general mental health outpatient clinic, an in-home therapy program, and several psychiatric hospitals.
In 2011, I received the Somerset County, NJ Board of Freeholders Professional Excellence Award for my work with the Resource Center of Somerset, where I developed and oversaw the child and family therapy programming for victims of domestic violence. Individuals dealing with relationships based in power and control remains very close to my heart. I continue to provide therapy services to survivors in my current practice.
Over the last 10 years, I have gained significant training in Attachment-based and traditional verbal therapy models including Emotionally Focused Family Therapy (EFFT), Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT), and Trauma Informed Care. I have noticed that these approaches are especially effective for long term healing and stress reduction, so I am currently in the process of becomming certified in the area of Emotionally Focused Family Therapy.
When I am not at work, I am usually outside enjoying nature with my family or trying to squeeze in time to paint. I love hiking throughout beautiful Montgomery County and using local landscaping themes in the art I create. I also enjoy gardening, so you may spot a few plants around my office! In the summer months, I offer a "free for all" basket of veggies for anyone who is interested helping me consume all of our modest, but robust crop!
